A brief overview of MGD’s Political Career

INTRODUCTION

Atty. Mauricio Domogan is a distinguished Filipino lawyer and politician who served as the Mayor of Baguio City, Congressman, and Councillor. He is known for his strong commitment to good governance, social justice, and sustainable development, and for his efforts in promoting tourism, environmental protection, and cultural preservation in the city. Throughout his political career, Atty. Domogan has been a steadfast advocate for the rights and welfare of the people of Baguio City, and has received numerous awards and recognitions for his leadership and service to the community.

1988 - 1992

COUNCILLOR OF BAGUIO CITY

Atty. Mauricio Domogan began his career in public service as a City Councillor of Baguio City from 1988 to 1992. During his tenure, he played a vital role in shaping the city's policies and programs. His dedication and commitment to serving the people of Baguio City began during his time as a City Councillor, and has continued throughout his long and distinguished career in public service.

1992 - 2000

MAYOR OF BAGUIO CITY

From City Councilor to Mayor, under the leadership of Mayor Domogan Baguio City was rebuilt from the aftermath of the 1990 killer earthquake, showcasing the resilience and unity of its people. Mayor Domogan was elected for a maximum of three terms as Mayor of Baguio City.

2001 - 2010

CONGRESSMAN LONE DISTRICT OF BAGUIO CITY

During the 12th Congress, Congressman Domogan was able to file twenty (20) bills as main author and fifty (50) bills as co-author. Eleven of these bills have become laws of the land (Republic Acts).

2010 - 2019

MAYOR OF BAGUIO CITY

Served another maxium of three terms as Baguio City Mayor. Among his many accomplishments, Mayor Domogan was bestowed he National Gawad Parangal Hall of Fame Award after 3 consecutive years hailed as the Outstanding City Mayor of the Philippines (Highly Urbanized City), for implementing various social welfare and development programs for the benefit of Baguio City.

Due to his performance and advocacy for the preservation of Cordillera culture, he was a recipient of many awards, some of these are:

  • This was personally presented to him by President Fidel V. Ramos on the occasion of the 95 th Anniversary of the Philippine Civil Service on September 1995.

  • Awarded by the National Meat Inspection Commission Region I, Agoo, La Union on October 9, 1995.

  • Awarded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources- CAR, June 5, 1995.

  • Given by the Department of Interior and Local Government at Clark Airbase, Pampanga in 1995.

  • Awarded by the Department of Tourism, September 27, 1996.

  • Philippines Cordillera Administrative Region, February 26, 1996.

    He may not have expected to become an awardee of the prestigious Select Outstanding Indigenous Leader (SOIL) of the Philippines with a cash reward of P30,000.00, but he believes such an award is heavily attributable to his passion and advocacy in helping preserve Cordillera culture.

    Significantly, when the highly coveted award was given to him in different places in Metro Manila, he was, as in many similar occasions, in his complete native attire.
